WHO’S AFRAID OF RED, YELLOW AND BLUE into an neo spaziale 4D.
In the painting Who’s Afraid of Red, Yellow and Blue III,

which also belongs to the collection of the Amsterdam Stedelijk Museum, Newman responds to abstract painting predecessors, such as Mondriaan.
Mondrian, in Newman’s eyes, had wrongly wanted to balance the primary colors red, yellow and blue.
Newman wanted the viewer to experience the explosive power of red in this work intensely.
He therefore deliberately did not seek balance.
