SOCCER RULES THE WORLD

Annuit Coeptis – Novus Ordo Seclorum
“Favored are our enterprises – a new order of the times.”

Football is often presented as a universal language that connects people, cultures, and nations. But behind the game lies a global economy in which states, multinationals, sponsors, and sports organizations come together around one common interest: capital.

Central to this work is the Great Seal of the United States with the all-seeing eye above the pyramid. Originally a symbol of divine providence, but here looking upon a world in which economic power increasingly transcends political boundaries.

The football, constructed from sponsor logos, symbolizes how sport has grown into a global trading platform. Even when countries are divided by conflicts, trade wars, or geopolitical tensions, companies continue to invest in the same leagues, stadiums, and global markets.

The striped work jacket refers to the blue triangle worn in German concentration camps by foreign prisoners and forced laborers. At the same time, it serves as a reference to migrant workers who helped build modern megaprojects for the global sports industry under harsh conditions.

The numbers 3 – 500 – 6500 ? refer to the varying estimates of the number of labor-related deaths surrounding the construction projects in Qatar. The question mark symbolizes the uncertainty regarding the actual numbers.

The dollar bills bear the names of FIFA sponsors and connect sport, money, and global influence.

This work poses the question:

Does football truly unite the world, or does it primarily create a playing field where economic interests transcend national, political, and moral boundaries?

Football does not rule the world because everyone plays the same game.
Football rules the world because everyone shares the same market.
