YAYOI KUSAMA: THE ARTIST REMAINS
A Monumental Artistic Homage
ARTISTIC PROPOSAL
To the Yayoi Kusama Foundation
Dear Sir or Madam,
I would like to present to the Yayoi Kusama Foundation an original artistic concept created as a tribute and monument to Yayoi Kusama and her artistic legacy.
The work consists of a sculptural human figure constructed from stainless-steel spheres, incorporating dots as a direct visual reference to one of the most recognizable elements of Kusama’s artistic language.
However, the central element of the concept is not the sculpture alone, but Yayoi Kusama’s own chair.
My intention is to create the sculpture specifically for placement on the authentic chair on which Yayoi Kusama worked.
The sculpture would be individually adapted to the exact form and dimensions of her original chair.
The chair would therefore not function merely as a pedestal or historical object. It would form an integral part of the artwork itself.
The intention is that the chair should no longer appear empty. By placing the sculpture in her own chair, the work creates the symbolic impression that Kusama is still present — that she has taken her place once again and continues to work.
In this way, the work seeks not merely to commemorate her absence, but to express her continuing artistic presence.
The original worktable provides the historical context of the concept.
It is not essential that the worktable itself be included in the final museum presentation. The authentic chair is the central element.
The accompanying image is a conceptual visualization only. The chair shown in the image is not Yayoi Kusama’s authentic chair. A substitute chair was used solely to demonstrate the proposed scale, position and relationship between the sculpture and the chair.
The intended final realization is specifically designed for her authentic chair.
I would like to offer this concept to the Yayoi Kusama Foundation for consideration as a possible future work within the context of the museum, her legacy and her preserved working environment.
The concept, visual design and accompanying description have been created by me and have been formally documented prior to this proposal.
This submission is made solely for consideration and discussion and does not constitute permission, a licence or a transfer of copyright or other intellectual-property rights. Any realization, reproduction, adaptation or other use of the proposed artwork requires my prior written agreement.
I would be honoured to discuss the concept with the Foundation and, if considered appropriate, to explore together how the work could be realized respectfully in relation to Yayoi Kusama’s original chair and artistic legacy.
Yours sincerely,
