VICTORY GROUND ZERO: THE FALL OF THE GRID

Project title: VICTORY GROUND ZERO: THE FALL OF THE GRID
Context: Thesis THE BIOGRAPHY OF FORM – FOURTH DIMENSION IN SEEING
VICTORY GROUND ZERO: THE FALL OF THE GRID

As part of my thesis, I am investigating the ‘biography’ of iconic artworks. My central thesis is that Piet Mondrian’s Victory Boogie Woogie is a living form that continues to evolve through time and context. I hereby present to you a revised proposal for a temporary visual intervention that activates the historical and contemporary significance of this masterpiece, with an unwavering focus on the safety of the object and full reversibility.

VICTORY GROUND ZERO: THE FALL OF THE GRID
Under this title, I propose applying a temporary visual layer over the protective museum glass, consisting of transparent, descending bombs and clouds. This layer activates a new historical interpretation: the modernist grid is reactivated as a living structure in which the tension of 1944 (the wartime period in which the work originated) merges with the geopolitical and economic fragility of today. Where, near Manhattan, Wall Street is the mondial epicenter.

Museum & Societal Relevance
This intervention is not intended to rewrite Mondrian, but to show the “biographical continuation” of his work. For the Kunstmuseum Den Haag, this project offers unique opportunities:

Audience reach: The intervention is highly mediagenic (an “Instagrammable” moment) and stimulates a younger generation through the “hack” of an icon.

Topicality: It positions the museum as an active dialogue partner that dares to reflect on the tension between utopian modernism and the current societal dark sides.

Conclusion
Victory Ground Zero is a tribute to Mondrian’s unfinished energy. Due to the modularity of the proposed methods — ranging from the intimate static foil to the technically ingenious ‘Sleeve’ — I offer you a scenario with maximum visual impact and zero technical risk. I hope to be able to explain this proposal and the accompanying technical specifications (including sample material on Schott Mirogard glass) to you in more detail in the near future.
